I am Dody's great-great niece. It is wonderful to see how many friends and supporters Dody has. It gives me comfort that she left this world with many fond memories and friends.

Though I only saw her on rare occasions throughout my life, Dody always left such a wonderful impression on me. When I was a kid, I had the fortune of being an extra in a film that was being shot at a building here in Portland, Oregon. (About three years ago, I moved into an apartment right across from the building, so the memory of being in a movie as a kid remained.) The last time I saw her in good health was at my grandparents' 50th wedding anniversary (we also recently lost my grandmother as well--next year would have been their 60th.) I remember being astonished at how independent and energetic she was, and at that time she was in her eighties. A few years later, I heard a rumor that she tried out for the movie Bewitched and was miffed about not getting the part. She was always young at heart. When I visited her in the hospital after a stroke, her personality still shined and she was seemingly as witty as ever. Every subject led back to a production in which she played a part. She seemed to stay mentally sharp by recalling these wonderful memories.

Thank you for everyone's support for my family and my aunt. I know she loved you all, including all of her wonderful fans!

I'm just a little bit younger then Dody, I'm 70 and she made this world a happier place.
Goodnight sweet lady...

Dody was a true one-of-a-kind legend. I first met her through her close friend James Coco. I deeply regret her passing, but celebrate her long, prosperous life. She will be missed.

I saw her daily at the actor's fund home when visiting my mother. Last month I read Patrick Dennis' biography to mom - of course she knew him as the author of Auntie Mame but didn't realize Dody was one of Patrick's madcap crowd, so next I read Mr. Dennis' 'FIRST LADY" and "LiITTLE ME" to her. If you haven't seen them enjoy the marvelous photos of Dody, Peggy Cass, et al., posing as the characters gamboling through their outrageous adventures. - The Dennis bio "Uncle Mame" also contains some marvelous Dody anecdotes and stories as she was interviewed for the book. She was a wonderful actress and a marvelous presence. I hope she and her old friends are racing around on another plane laughing, partying and carrying on.

I had the joy of working on stage (or really off stage) with Dody in 1972 in Oklahoma City's MUMMERS professional theatre where she was Dolly Levi in Thorton Wilder's "The Matchmaker." This of course is the play on which the musical "Hello Dolly" was based. It has several wonderful thought provoking and touching monlogues which Dody shined at performing. She was always in character on stage, but oh what a Character. A few years later I had lunch with her out Hollywood when she was in Mary Hartman.
I'm sorry to hear of her passing, but she will live on happily in many of our hearts and memories.
Love ya, Dody!

I am so sad to hear of Dody passing. I loved her in my favorite movie of all time Grease, she always made me laugh in anything she did. She was wonderful and will be missed terribly. She will always be remembered as one of the funniest and best people to watch on T.v. or movie.

I am very sad to hear of Ms Goodman's passing.
Ironically, my 16 year old niece was just visiting
from the west coast and when I asked her if she'd like to rent a movie-she requested GREASE.
I must have seen it 10 time over this past week!

She loved the boys and the younger actors, naturally.
I loved seeing Sid and Dody and Joan Blondell, Frankie Avalon and Eve Arden not forgetting Ed (cookie) Byrnes.

The scene in the office where Dody is trying to find schedules-getting chocolate everywhere on everything she handles is brilliant-an actors' touch. Looks almost improvised, she had beautiful timing and true sense of herself. She was definately 'old school'
comedy when character and timing were everything.

She is leaving us pure joy! Her show will go on and on.

I want to write in again on how I miss Dody Goodman because she was a lovely friend of mine. There is so much to her Bio that there's not room enough for everything but to mention a couple of things, she toured in "Once Upon a Mattress" with Buster Keaton and she performed in plays with Vivian Vance! She told me, "When Vivian needed things for re-decorating, like new living room curtains, she'd call me and say 'Let's go do that play again' and I would go with her!". Dody was very cute, she was a most amusing lady, and honest. She'll never be replaced and she'll never be forgotten. We will think of Dody often.

Is my memory fading? I was sure that she did a tour as Princess Winifred in ONCE UPON A MATRESS, with Buster Keaton as the King. That was back in the 1960s, if I recall. But I see this mentioned nowhere on this site or in obituaries.

Policeman: On your way Violet. Violet: Look, your a public servant, I pay your salary, so just you show a little more respect. (Orchestra Stinger)

I remember from years ago in this exchange during Christopher Street in Wonderful Town , Dody played Violet who taught "Rumba Lessons" ;-) -- from this to her Jack Parr appearances to her later work in several movies , I can only say that her life here enriched all of us in so many ways. As an amateur actor I draw greatly from comic influences like her. Thanks Dody for all the wackiness --- it is just what we all needed.
